FOR BELONGINGS BAGS

Materials needed:
½ yard printed material (width might vary)
One shoe string 45" in length

1.  With right sides together sew one seam closed; ½ inch seam allowance.

2.  Sew second side leaving 3 inches open from the top.

3.  Fold open this side seam and stitch open three inches.

4.  Leave bag inside out and fold the top over 1 ½ inches, stitch ¾ inches from top
of bag leaving an opening for the tie or shoe string.

5.  Pull shoe string through opening and knot both ends.

To save time when you get to #4, just place the shoe string 1 ½ inches from the top, fold the material over and stitch as closely as possible to the shoe string.  Be careful not to sew the shoe string into the seam.  This saves you from having to thread the shoe string later.

Note: Fabrics used to be 36" wide…today, most print cotton; cotton/poly blends are from 42 - 45" wide.  You can get two bags from a yard…the width might vary, but this is fine.

SLEEPING BAGS FOR LITTLE STUFFED ANIMALS.

Take an oblong/rectangular piece of fabric.  Edge the two short and one long side of the piece of fabric.  Fold it in thirds-overlapping the edges in the front.  Serge the bottom of the three pieces (on the untrimmed side) and you will have a little "pocket" sleeping bag to put the animal in.  Then, putting the animal inside-tie a ribbon around to make the animal stay in the bag and give it a "dressed up" look.  The children love them!  Since I use my scraps for these, the pieces of fabric will vary in size-depends, too, on the size of your animals.  I don't usually put animals more than 12" in a sleeping bag,

REVERSIBLE DRAWSTRING BAGS are similar to the belonging bags but are somewhat smaller, made with only one layer of fabric, just like the belongings bags but smaller.  You can use your smaller pieces of fabric on this.  You'll want them at least 8-10" x 8-10" finished.

Note:  All kinds of fabric can be used for these bags. However, fleece works better for the little animal sleeping bags; print cottons work best for the belongings and toiletries bags.  The bags can also be made of fleece, gabardines, corduroys, but are not as durable or washable…it will depend on who they are going to and what use they are going to be for.
