Every child deserves to have their very own special blanket ...

GRAMMA'S HUGS INTERNATIONAL . . .
Thank you for your interest in making blankets for the babies of the world!
You can make any pattern or style that you like, but if you need a pattern --
Giant Granny Square Afghan
Use crochet hook G or H, 4 ply yarn (or even I, J)
First round only:Sc 5 sts for a circle; join circle, then; * dc 3 times into circle, chain 2*...do this 4 times
Second Round:
Dc 3 times, chain 3; dc 3 times; chain 1 do this 4 times (you will have 8 groups of 3 and 4 corners)...
Continue adding the groups of 3 until you have done 24 rounds (smallest -- more for larger) -- keeping the two groups of 3 at each corner (to turn the corner)... and the sc between each 3dc. Afghans for Preemies are 24" square so might be even smaller than this)
Border:
Sc or dc around the edge. You may make the outside edge narrow or wide -- in alternating colors or not. I like to match each one a little different.
Your own creativity as to color sequence and rows is up to you.
The above afghan should be about 30-36" square.
Sew off any ends -- try to weave them in so as not to leave knots hanging out.
In ONE corner only, crochet a heavy loop for the child to hang it on the wall...
Knitted Afghan
Use knitting needles size 10 or 11, 4 ply yarn
Pattern:
K2, YO, K to end
Cast on 4 sts....keeping the outside edges the same, continue in pattern until there are 144 sts.
Then - decrease on both sides each row until you are down to 4 sts and bind off.
Decrease:
K1, K2Tog, YO, K2Tog, k across
When you are down to 4 sts, bind off.
Finish off ends.
This makes a delightful crosswise garter st blanket. Putting different colored rows and then crocheting an edge around it makes it extremely attractive.Use your own ideas to make it as interesting as you can.
Or: You can knit a square blanket using the same needles and yarn size and casting on 110 or more stitches and make as many rows as will make it square and bind it off. Crocheting a border of several rows will make a nice finished edge.
